Encouraging young Americans to vote for Sen. Barack Obama for president in 2008 with ‘Crush on Obama, BarelyPolitical has unleashed subsequent videos of Amber Lee Ettinger as ‘Obama Girl’ ad nauseum.

With now President Obama running as an incumbent with a lagging economy and heightened U.S. military operations around the world, perhaps Obama Girl will sit this one out.

The problem for President Obama is that Obama Girl symbolized the excitement young Americans had for candidate Obama, excitement that propelled the junior Senator into our highest office.

The grassroots organization of 2008 has surely waned, and if Chris Mesfsina’s weak pump-up-the-grassroots-video is their trajectory for enthusiasm, it’s not going to cut it:

Instead of hauling out the troops, the campaign appears to be focused on hauling in the dough. Reuters reports that the 2012 Obama campaign will rake in over a billion dollars.

A BILLION DOLLARS!

While it’s easy at this time to assume the president will win, especially with a lackluster Republican field (and did I mention the BILLION DOLLARS?), the enthusiasm gap between 2012 and 2008 is expanding.
