No Dancing Washington D.C. (Memorials)

Five people were arrested at the Jefferson Memorial for, well, dancing.

Apparently inspired by Newt Gingrich’s ringtone and something curiously called ‘free speech’.  They were charged with demonstrating without a permit.

At our nation’s capitol, you need a permit to boogie.

According to the HuffingtonPost:

The dancers were protesting an appeals court ruling handed down last week that the national monuments are places for reflection and contemplation — and that dancing distracted from such an experience.

Okay, have you ever been to the national memorials?  They’re grandiose and wonderful and after about fifteen minutes or so…incredibly  boring.  I would love to see people dancing around out there, especially at the Jefferson Memorial, which is way out by itself across the tidal basin.

The only distraction concerning the national memorials is the court’s interpretation of memorial.  Our fondest memories are the ones we celebrate, not the ones we feel indebted to pay pious placidity.
